I love Home and Away. There, I said it. Now that’s out of the way it should partly explain why I was so excited to see Thor 3D. You see I always get a little excited to see Summer Bay alumni making it big in Hollywood because like a proud parent I’ve witnessed their shaky first steps into the world of acting and fallen in love with them on their journey watching them deal with evil twin cousins, Summer Bay stalkers and more natural disasters than any one town has ever seen. So when Kim Hyde (Chris Hemswoth), one of my favourites, left the show in 2007 I was left reeling with empty nest syndrome...
That’s why for me watching Thor was like spending a couple of hours with an old friend albeit one that was dressed as some sort of… I want to say wizard(?)... in a dodgy wig. I think it’s this clip of Kim arriving at his wedding to Rachel on horseback that showcased his superhero potential. (Rachel was punching above her weight with Kim but God loves a trier and so do I, so just for good measure you have to watch this unintentionally hilarious clip of… well I won’t spoil it for you.)
I may not have otherwise gone to watch a film based on a comic that I’d never read directed by Kenneth Branagh so I’m glad I did. It was amazing, and so nice to watch Natalie Portman in a film that doesn’t involve her pulling off her fingernails. Now if only he can find a similar vehicle for Nicolle Dickson aka Bobby who was last seen in Home and Away in 1995 as a ghost that appeared in Ailsa’s refrigerator door. Potential projects for Mr. Branagh's consideration off the top of my head; Love's Labour's Found, Much Ado About Something or even Henry VI(3D).
I just realised this post makes me sound creepy stalker. It's not like I'm some nut job that Photoshops their face on to Alf Stewart's body to look like they’re being hugged by their favourite soap star! Oh wait… I did that. Speaking of crazy, if one of my tens of readers would like to show their appreciation of my humiliating myself for their entertainment I would appreciate it if you could buy me this so I could do this with it. Too far?
