Whilst Caleb Followill may have been my Hairspiration for my hair style, I have another Hairspiration that is more colour specific and somewhat subconscious. I recently indulged in a Sex and The City marathon, all 6 seasons and 2 movies from the beginning. Not in one sitting, I might add. I’d moved to new place without a TV aerial in my room so my viewing options were limited to DVD box-sets or static.
Watching Sex and The City from the beginning wasn’t something I’d done since my university days, which may explain why I only got a ‘Desmond’ (2:2). Who cares, it was totally worth it and I felt it better prepared me for life than knowing the meaning of the word hegemony. God, the fashion in 1998 was appalling, and at the rate things are moving it should be back in fashion late next year, if so let’s hope the Mayan’s got it right about the whole apocalypse thing. Anyway, something dawned on me; I’ve had every one of Carrie Bradshaw’s hair colours.
It’s not something I was conscious of at the time, but seeing them all in front of me one after the other was like a trip down memory lane. The first foray into a bleachy whole head of highlights, until it was too blonde which resulted in the season 3 under-dye and low lights to get it back to a healthier season 4 blonde, then came the dreaded season 5 bob. Ugh. The less said about that the better. I couldn’t wait for that to be over, and in the second half of season six it finally was, and a combination of grown out roots and some chocolaty lowlights saw a return to her natural brown. And I’d managed to copy all of this somewhat unconsciously*.
My return to my own mousey brown came after a disastrous all over dark brown, which made me look like a pale Goth, finally faded out. So the moral of the story I guess is I should just stick to Sarah Jessica Parker’s tried and tested hues, but maybe not the styling.
*Ok, so I did take a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker with me to the hairdressers so I could get my current hair colour; the movie Carrie blondette.
